Job summary

The post holder will:

Ensure the effective smooth running of the marker session clinics, to ensure the effective use of resources when booking inpatients for treatment, and to ensure the appropriate action is taken regarding all enquiries received.

Receive radiotherapy booking forms from the consultants, clinical oncologists and secretaries, ensuring that all relevant sectionsare completed and additional information is included.

Schedule any additional appointments the patient may require for treatment, e.g., the mould room, the simulator etc.

Ensure all paperwork is completed and that any treatment regimes discussed with the consultant is appropriated, i.e., bedsbooked for chemotherapy, blood test forms, GFR booked, etc.

Main duties of the job

Planning and Design

Action any cancellations immediately and re-book where necessary, also bringing foreword patients into cancelled slots (contactingthem by telephone).

Ensure that patients paperwork in the planning queue are correctly placed, and that start dates and verification is re-booked and therelevant clinic radiographer is informed, when delays occur.Improvement, Monitoring, Policy/Service Development

Have an active involvement in regular Quality Assurance meetings, adapting own working practices in accordance with findings.Communication.

Deal with a large number of telephone enquiries from consultants, specialised health care professionals, secretaries, and patients,resulting in a large number of alterations to schedules.

Maintain effective communication links with treatment units, consultants, simulator, mould room and clinical radiographers to ensurethat all relevant patient information is received to ensure an optimum treatment schedule.

Track breast patients on chemotherapy; to liase with trial nurse specialists as to any changes in finish dates ensuring thatradiotherapy is booked within four weeks of their last cycle.

Be confident and courteous at all times on the telephone, e.g., when dealing with sensitive issues raised by patients.

Prioritise queries and discuss issues raised with the appropriate health care professional.
