Job summary
This post is for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a sub specialist interest in upper GI cancers. This is an 8 session post and working hours are flexible to accommodate candidates who may have caring duties. There are opportunities to develop off site working as needed.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be an integral member of the upper GI cancer team, currently including two Medical Oncologists, and three Clinical Oncologists, two of whom are highly regarded in upper GI cancer radiotherapy clinical trials. One is the clinical lead for RTTQA. There is a specialist nurse team who are invaluable in helping coordinating the patients treatment pathway and offering emotional and psychological support. The team is also supported by research nurses. There is both a local upper GI MDT which discusses all patients and also a regional oesophagogastric MDT and regional pancreatic MDT where all potentially radically treatable patients are discussed. Upper GI oncologists, specialist nurses, radiology, pathology and the regional resectional surgeons attend these MDT's.
The post holder will see approximately 80 new patients and 150 follow up patients per year.
