Job summary

Job Purpose

This is a post within the CDS which provides dental care for vulnerable people of all ages in the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot areas.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating dental nurse activities, Infection Prevention Control lead and for carrying out additional administrative duties to support the CDS Operations Manager.

The post will also include the provision of clinical support for clinicians during all aspects of CDS service provision including Special Care Dentistry (SCD), GA lists, sedation clinics and epidemiology surveys.

The SDN will be expected to have a good working knowledge of the nursing support skills needed to ensure that adequate clinical support is provided for CDS clinicians at all times. This will entail competency in a wide range of dental nursing activities.

Main duties of the job

To lead, supervise and coordinate dental nurse activities and infection control within the CDS.

As infection prevention control lead report any concerns regarding infection control to the Clinical Lead/Operations Manager in accordance with CDS and Health Board policies.

The SDN will provide clinical support to CDS clinicians when required in a range of clinical settings including fixed clinics, hospital GA lists, domiciliary dental care, special schools, secure units, prisons and on mobile dental units. Clinical support will include Special Care Dentistry and conscious/IV sedation.

The SDN will be expected to have or to attain a good working knowledge of SOEL and be able to record patient clinical and other administrative data.

The SDN will be required to support other clinicians and dental nurses and communicate with the carers of the vulnerable people seen by the CDS to identify means to improve patient care within the CDS wherever possible.
