Job summary
Renal Technical Services (RTS) are a regional support service based at Morriston Hospital supplying equipment and facilities management, for lifesustaining patient connected renal dialysis equipment, across south-west Wales.
Within this service the post holder will be part of a highly skilled team supplying specialist consistent and integrated care to renal patients in theHealth Board's chronic/acute/self-care renal units, Main/Burns/Cardiac ITU's, Renal medical ward and patient's homes.
The post is advertised as a band 3.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at Morriston Hospital and expected to work in a wide range of clinical areas in the delivery of a renal technicalservice and will have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently in areas of equipment that falls within their competency. They will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have authority to refer problems to suitably qualified colleagues.
Primary duties include performing duties to help maintain the service such as, but not exclusively, water testing, basic first line maintenance, changing of filters, electrical safety testing as well as assisting the Renal Technologists with their tasks. They must also have the ability to deal with sensitive and highly complex information that will include confidential patient issues, which must be dealt with in an empathetic and diplomatic manner.
Training other staff and patients in basic maintenance tasks is also a requirement of the role.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Responsible for planning their own assigned work and, together with the line manager, prioritise non-routine breakdown requests. Responsible fordealing with emergencies arising with equipment. Perform commissioning and acceptance tests on newly purchased and loan equipment.
Participate in and contribute to the Quality Management System, adhering to the policies and processes at all times.Work according to Health Board and Departmental policies and procedures and work with autonomy within the post holders assigned duties, making decisions within the scope of their competence.Actively contribute to planning of service developments within RTS, in conjunction with senior staff, and actively contribute to and support thedevelopment of changes to the RTS quality system that will have a specificimpact on their own area of competency but also generally within the department.Provide assistance with the development of changes to Health and Safety Policies that will have an impact particularly in their own area ofresponsibility but also generally within RTS.
