Job summary

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 16 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING.

Two exciting opportunities have arisen to become part of our expanding and innovative, multi-disciplinary team at Rehabilitation Engineering, part of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering.

Both posts are Band 6, fixed term for 16 months, preferably full-time hours. Part-time may be considered. Those with less experience are encouraged to apply and may be appointed at lower banding.

We encourage applications from the following professions and will adapt the role accordingly: There is some flexibility to adapt the role to those that apply, which may include

  • Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapistwith experience in long-term conditions, neurological disorders, learning disability or posture & mobility; to provide support to the Special Seating team, working with the MDT. Where required, support and training will be provided to increase expertise towards independent assessment and caseload management.
  • Rehabilitation Engineer with technical and scientific skills and experience in wheelchairs/mobility to input across the Seating and PUPIS teams.

There is scope to have involvement with departmental service development, research and innovation activity, depending on expertise and direction.

Main duties of the job

These rewarding roles would suit individuals that are enthusiastic, organised, keen to develop themselves and to help the lives of those with complex, long-term disability. They must be effective communicators and might have experience working with patients with neuromuscular conditions, as well as an interest in (bio)mechanical function. The team works effectively together, supporting each other's development and allowing individuals to work to their strengths. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of our service.

You will provide highly specialist clinical and/or engineering skills. As a team we assess for, design, prescribe and provide a range of equipment to enhance the mobility, posture and pressure management of our patients.

The Rehabilitation Engineering Unit (REU), located in purpose-built Specialist Rehabilitation Centre at Morriston Hospital, provides services in special seating /postural management (wheelchairs), pressure ulcer prevention and intervention (PUPIS) and functional electrical stimulation, as well as various other support services and design/development and research activities.
