Job summary

There has never been a better time to join our growing team within the Forensic Division of our Mental Health and Learning Disabilities service group here at SBUHB.

With a new leadership team in place, we are working closely with WHSSC, our commissioners to deliver high quality care to our medium secure patients here at the Caswell clinic working closely with six local health boards in Wales. The service is going through an ambitious, exciting process of re-design to modernise its inpatient facility, enhance the clinical workforce, streamline delivery of patient care and enhance links in the community.

The post holder will lead one of five Clinical Teams and be responsible for the provision of a Forensic Psychiatry Medium Secure Service, based at the Caswell Clinic at Glanrhyd Hospital, Bridgend.

This post forms part of the establishment for the sixty-one bedded Medium Secure Unit at the Glanrhyd Hospital site which opened in 2004 and replaced the existing 33-bedded Interim Secure Unit which was established in 1991. The Unit provides tertiary inpatient beds for mentally disordered offenders from across South and West Wales, covering a population of approximately 2.2 million. This accounts for all Health Boards in Wales apart from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. One of the five wards has a specific remit for female patients. The Service has five Clinical Teams and a well developed community service, offering follow up for newly discharged patients. Outreach Forensic Psychiatry Clinics are held at HMP Cardiff and HMP Swansea.

Essential

  • -Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • -On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due) within 6 months of interview date
  • -Or CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration
  • -Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists -Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills

Desirable

  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • -Broad based experience in psychiatry across the range of sub-specialities. Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • -Knowledge and participation in CPD
  • -Competence in eg management of acute psychiatric presentations
  • -Expertise in the treatment of mental disorders within Forensic Mental Health
  • -Able to apply knowledge
  • -Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
