We are looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic new colleague to join our friendly, forward-thinking team in Breast & Lymphoedema Plastic Surgery.
The successful candidate would be required to undertake general and specialised plastic surgery (within in the breast and lymphoedema services) ideally including LVA and lymph node transfers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join the Plastic surgery on call rota (There are separate rotas for Burns). This is a Consultant post based at Morriston Hospital,they will also have outpatient and day case operating in a number of the DGH across south Wales and combined working with other Paediatric surgical Specialities in the Childrens Hospital for Wales, Cardiff under an honorary contract. The successful candidate will join a team of 25 plastic and reconstructive surgeons responsible for the provision of Burns and Plastic Surgical services for the population of South Wales.

This is a Consultant post specialising in Lymphoedema and breast microsurgery joining a team of 28 Consultants based in the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery (WCBPS) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The plastic surgery service covers all the acute hospitals in South Wales, serving a population of 2.3M people. We are the only providers of plastic surgery located in Wales; the population of North Wales receiving their services from units in North West England. The facilities available on the Morriston site include low-dependency beds and a dedicated outpatients facility. Dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services are available. There is a dedicated Plastics Surgery Treatment Centre located adjacent to the elective ward, which provides planned day case treatment for local anaesthetic cases in two operating room.
Lymphoedema surgery has been available in Wales since 2015 and includes Lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA), Lymph node transfer (LNT) as well as and Bodyjet liposuction. The post holder will be expected to become an integral part of this lymphoedema surgery service, having completed a period of advanced training in the field, mentored by our current senior Lymphoedema surgeon, Mr Amar Ghattaura. This post will entail lymphoedema microsurgery on a weekly basis as well as MDT clinics, working with Lymphoedema Network Wales (LNW). Currently, there are 23,000 people in Wales with lymphoedema managed by LNW with over 130 professionals, including physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists, podiatrists and a full programme management office for data collection. LNW also have a dedicated team of researchers who can support new studies. As part of this role, the post holder will also be expected to develop research projects in the field of lymphoedema surgery as well as undertake trials through close collaboration with Cardiff University.
In addition to the lymphoedema role, the successful candidate will be part of the breast microsurgical service in Swansea Bay Hospitals, offering DIEP/LAP flap reconstructions to patients from South Wales. The post holder will also be part of the general Plastic surgery team taking part in the acute trauma on call service as well as managing skin cancers.
