Job summary

Swansea Bay University Health Board's Medical Devices Training Department is part of the MEMS(Medical Equipment Management Services) and provides a range of training courses and bespokestudy days aimed at the safe use of high-risk medical devices.

Categories of equipment include;infusion devices and IV therapy, medical gas safety training, suction units, bedside monitoring as wellas bespoke training when new medical devices are rolled out across wards and departments.

As well as designing and delivering competency-based training courses, there is a need to manage and attend a number of high-profile groups and committees.This will include representing MEMS, andchairing and contributing towards the patient safety agenda in some, or all of the following HealthBoard groups and meetings:

Medical Devices Committee and Infusion Devices Sub GroupIV therapy faculty training teamNRFit safety connects group (including the All Wales equivalent group)Safer Sharps GroupMedical Gas CommitteePGD and Policy review groupMedication Safety Group (MSG)Paediatric Risk groupDERS and smart pump project All Wales procurement contract projects for consumables

Main duties of the job

The post holder will design, develop and produce training materials and use a variety of teaching and assessment methods to deliver training for a range of high-risk medical devices to overcome any barriers to understanding.

The post holder will help provide governance oversight and quality assurance of infusion device training and IV therapy across the Health Board. Along with the existing Medical Devices Trainer, the post holder will be jointly responsible for the management of:o The Health Board's infusion devices service including the procurement of new andreplacement infusion devices.o The medical devices libraries in hospitals.o The infusion device operational suitability and availability of devices to meet the demandsacross the whole of the Health Board.o Investigation, and incident investigation of medical device incidents

The post holder will help oversee the training of the other educators supporting infusion device training and IV therapy, and of cascade infusion device trainers, drawing on the clinical trainer resources provided by the device manufacturers for added support.

The post holder will help manage the planning, co-ordinating, and delivery of all training for IV therapy and the broad range of high-risk infusion devices used across the Health Board. The provision of this training will meet the needs of the organisation and will be available for all nurses, doctors, consultants, professions allied to medicine, patients and carers.
