Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Complex Trauma, Orthoplastic & Limb reconstruction skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for one Consultant Trauma surgeon with expertise in Complex Trauma management, Orthoplastic and Limb reconstruction to join our regional service. Joining 5 other specialist trauma surgeons as we grow and develop this new and continually evolving service. If you want to be part of a unit that has enormous potential for growth and become the centre of excellence for lower limb recon in Wales, this is the job for you.

Swansea Bay University Health Board provides many tertiary referral services with Morriston Hospital a designated Major Trauma Unit Plus within the Major Trauma Network of South Wales. Trauma services are delivered to the local and wider population in conjunction with our Plastic Surgical colleagues with the majority of lower limb recon with the network done on the Morriston site.

Complex Trauma, Orthoplastic and limb reconstruction continue to demand significant time and resource with the Welsh Health Specialise Services Committee recognising the need for additional funding to support expansion and resilience in the Consultant workforce to provide this service.

Research and Development and teaching are fundamental to the service as a result of close working links with Swansea University Medical School, currently ranked 4th in the UK.

  • Registered with the GMC
  • Licensed to practice
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
  • Wide range of skills in orthopaedic surgery scheduled and unscheduled
