Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, inspirational and motivated midwifery leader to join the senior Midwifery team . We are looking for a talented, passionate and driven Senior Midwife to take continue our transformation and development of maternity services.

Due to promotion of the current post holder, we are delighted to be recruiting to the role of Deputy Head of Midwifery.

Working in close partnership with the Director of Midwifery and Women's Services, the Head of Midwifery, and the leadership team, the Deputy Head of Midwifery will be responsible for leading and embedding positive cultural, professional, and clinical change across our services.

Main duties of the job

To provide professional leadership and direction to Midwives working across the Health Board, promoting the highest standards in a quality, learning environment with the aim to:

Ensure adherence to all NMC standardsImproving the experience of women who use the serviceDevelop and monitor evidence based practicePromoting best practice and implementing innovations in care

The post holder will be required to communicate complex, sensitive and contentious information where there are significant barriers to acceptance. The post holder would be required to overcome these communication difficulties.

Provide line management for the Midwifery Matrons and the Lead Midwife for Governance & Risk.

Work collaboratively with all midwives who contribute to achieving the aims of "Maternity Care in Wales, A Five Year Vision for the Future (2019-2024)" (Welsh Government).

To ensure efficient and effective use of the midwifery resources in conjunction with the Head of Midwifery.

To ensure effective operational and line management for all midwifery staff.To act as key member of the service team, contributing fully to the development, delivery and achievement of the Health Board and Service Group objectives with the ability to deputise for the Head of Midwifery in her absence.

Contribute to the strategic policies for midwifery services.To participate in Maternity and children's services on-call arrangement.

Essential

  • Registered Midwife (active NMC registration)
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience

  • Extensive knowledge of the maternity services with evidence of holding Midwifery management posts within an NHS organisation
  • In depth knowledge of the quality and safety requirements of the maternity service which includes governance processes /risk management and audit
  • Knowledge and experience of achieving the professional regulatory requirements as set out by the NMC
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
