Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual to become the Deputy Pathology Informatics Manager within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB). SBUHB Pathology Department operates as a Swansea Bay region "hub and spoke" network. The Department currently covers the areas and populations served by four hospital sites i.e. Morriston Hospital, Singleton Hospital, Neath Port Talbot Hospital and the Princess of Wales Hospital (which is now in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board). Service provision for the latter is subject to an SLA, and there are discussions relating to the recent Health Board boundary change. The successful applicant would be expected to work across all Health Board sites.

Post holder will manage day to day tasks working along with the Pathology Informatics team members and is responsible for the smooth running of Pathology systems. This includes the provision of information for both internal and external use, and the systems necessary to deliver it. The post holder reports to Head of Pathology Informatics and supports by managing the Pathology IT Systems and its associated peripheral interfaces and communication devices across all the disciplines of the Pathology services including Laboratory Medicine, Cellular Pathology, Blood Transfusion, etc.

Main duties of the job

Post holder is an essential member of staff who will deputise Head of Pathology Informatics when needed, in national meetings, business continuity and major incidents due to the importance of the pathology systems and the support they provide to unscheduled care services. The post holder will work closely with Head of Pathology Informatics in the influencing of national developments with regards to pathology systems and in the testing and development of pathology systems.

The role is also will act as an experienced technical lead responsible for Pathology Informatics Infrastructure support team. The post holder will be expected to work independently and will maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff development and training.

You must have good experience of working within the NHS environment with an excellent understanding of clinical systems and be able to demonstrate evidence of successful implementation of pathology informatics projects.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
