Job summary

The principal objective of this post is to provide the Senior Matron Clinical Nursing Informatics Lead with senior professional support in the modernisation of health service delivery, promoting new ways of working utilising information technology to improve access to clinical information and knowledge to enhance shared decision-making regarding patient care. The post holder will assist the Senior Matron Clinical Nursing Informatics Lead in representing the organisation while setting the strategic direction and operationalisation across the Health Board and NHS Wales with the national project team for the digitisation of nursing documentation and other nursing digitisation projects.

The aim of the digitisation programme is to improve patient care, experience and outcomes through the development of high-quality information, systems and technologies, applying the 'Once for Wales' principles wherever possible.

Main duties of the job

The Informatics Clinical Nurse Specialist will:

Play a key role and be visible across Swansea Bay UHB during the development and implementation of clinical information systems used by nursing professionals and nursing support workers, which will enhance and maintain patient safety and experience.

Advise and lead on digitisation of nursing processes and ways of working.

Contribute to decision making while supporting the Senior MatronClinical Nursing Informatics Leadin the leadership of, and development of the digitisation of nursing which will include projects such as the standardisation and digitisation of documentation working collaboratively across the Health Board with patients, carers, partners and professionals.

Contribute to national discussions on the design of solutions such as the Welsh Nursing Care Record as part of patients' digital health records.

The post holder, as an experienced registered nurse/midwife, will be accountable to the Health Board's Senior Matron/Clinical Nursing Informatics Lead.

Work as a senior operational lead alongside the Health Boards Senior Matron Clinical Nursing Informatics Lead to integrate clinical and nursing digital projects across the organisation.

Communicate, translate and evaluate complex information to/from nursing and digital professionals, and wider multidisciplinary teams to support the ongoing development and transition to digital ways of working.

Develop and maintain open communication between clinical user groups to seek feedback and determine issues or problem areas at Health Board level.

Represent the Senior Matron Clinical Nursing Informatics Lead at relevant national forums relating to Digital where relevant to the nursing profession, which will include nursing documentation acting as the nursing representative for the Health Board.

Inform development and provide advice regarding new documentation at local and national level. This will involve close collaboration with a range of professional clinical experts and senior nursing leads.

Communicate with Digital teams in relation to nursing requirements based on technology and functionality.

Serve as an expert clinical resource for nursing staff regarding information systems.

Develop, plan and deliver training programmes to nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team for solutions such as Welsh Nursing Care Record, Signal, Hospital E-Prescribing and Medicines Administration and other relevant digital systems.

Operate independently to make sound judgement and decision making involving highly complex facts or situations across nursing and patient related activities in the context of the wider healthcare environment and their transitions through healthcare environments.

Advise and contribute to the identification and deployment of hardware and other associated devices and technology-related equipment.
