THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT UNTIL 17/01/25 DUE TO MATERNITY COVER.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Advanced radiotherapy physics technologist / dosimetrist to specialise in Stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) planning and continue the development of advanced technologist roles within the Radiotherapy Physics Service at the South West Wales Cancer Centre in Swansea. This is a fixed-term post for maternity cover that includes the commissioning of Elekta Monaco, our new treatment planning system.

The service supports a range of state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment that includes four Elekta linear accelerators (including SGRT and FFF capability), Philips wide-bore CT-scanner, Pinnacle treatment planning system utilising image fusion (ProSoma), auto segmentation and adaptive techniques (Mirada), and a well-developed oncology information management system (Mosaiq), all deployed in a Citrix environment to provide electronic access across the South West Wales region to facilitate complete remote and paperless working. The service supports a flexible approach, including working from home, unsociable hours and weekend working.

Treatment plans are prepared for a number of clinical trials and clinical sites using techniques that include IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, 4D CT and CBCT and SGRT. The SWWCC has an ongoing collaboration agreement with Elekta to develop the next generation of radiotherapy workflow management software tools.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake, supervise and lead a range of tasks independently and without supervision within treatment planning areas (as required). You will be expected to take responsibility for areas of the service (SABR) and have a deeper and more specialised knowledge of tasks undertaken within Radiotherapy Physics Services.

You will be responsible for leading technologists and other planning group members, in preparing treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy. You will have a specific leadership role in further delivering and developing the SABR planning service. You will undertake measurement of radiation beams from the linear accelerators to verify treatment delivery accuracy.

You will be involved in implementing clinical developments within the department by introducing new techniques, such as new SABR sites, as well as the commissioning of a new treatment planning system. You will also be responsible for the checking, supervising, teaching and training of other staff and students within the department.

Qualified Senior Radiotherapy Physics Technologists / Dosimetrist currently working in Radiotherapy are encouraged to apply.
