Job summary
This is a dental nurse post within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) Community Dental Service (CDS). As a member of the dental team, you will be required to travel to any of the CDS clinics within SBUHB/occasionally Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend as necessary.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide chair side and administration support to clinical staff in fixed clinics, and during domiciliary dental care visits in patient homes including care homes and secure units. Other duties include, supporting joint orthodontic assessment clinics, sedation and GA clinics. Participating in epidemiological surveys and oral health promotion are also part of the core duties. Providing support to paediatric General Anaesthetic Triage clinics.
About us
The CDS presently provides services via clinics and domiciliary dental care. We have 6 clinics based in various locations throughout Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Clinics are well equipped for the provision of special care dentistry with good access and additional facilities. Within Port Talbot Resource Centre we have a dedicated special care room consisting of a wheelchair platform and a bariatric chair. There is also the provision of bariatric facilities within the building.
A wide range of treatment is available including a conscious sedation service using nitrous oxide and oxygen and intravenous sedation midazolam that is appropriate in a primary dental care setting.

Job responsibilities
Provide chair side assistance to clinical staffIdentify patients nursing needs during treatment and provide care to meet those needs. This will include ensuring patients are provided with suitable appointment times and are able to access the clinic safely, taking into consideration their special care requirementsOrganise and plan own clinics workload autonomously and work with minimal supervisionAct as first point of contact with the CDS for patients and carersMake appointments for patients when required and liaise with CDS team members to ensure the smooth running of clinicsProvide information, taking into consideration the limitations some patient groups may have.
