Job summary

Clinical Scientist (or equivalent) to lead R&D projects in Rehabilitation Engineering

Band 7

12 months fixed term from grant and R&D funding

We are seeking a motivated Clinical Scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team at the Rehabilitation Engineering Unit (REU).

Applicants with less experience are also encouraged to apply and may be considered at a lower banding (modified job description and payscale).

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply

Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity is to have a pivotal role in research and development activity, working within the service as well as with collaborators from industry and academia. The department has been awarded funding for 4 innovative projects which has enabled this opportunity, with the expectation this will lead to further funding opportunities.

Projects might include:

  • Sensor development for gait measures
  • Wheelchair stability measurement
  • Movement tracking for pressure ulcer prevention
  • Patient reported outcome measures for Functional Electrical Stimulation
  • FES Clinical Trial (Parkinson's Disease)
  • Co-design of aids for daily living and design streamlining

The successful applicant will also take part in a clinical role supporting the assessment, provision and review of medical devices, as part of the FES or seating services dependent on expertise. They will also input to the department's quality management processes.

REU provides services in special seating /postural management (wheelchairs), Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Intervention (PUPIS) and functional electrical stimulation (FES).

REU is situated within the Specialist Rehabilitation Centre at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, equipped with modern facilities and state-of-the-art technologies.
