Job summary

Applications are invited for 2 full time Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologists. These posts are based in Singleton Hospital in Swansea. However, some clinical commitments may be required in other hospitals within the Health Board.

The posts are offered on the amended terms of the Consultant Contract on an optional whole time, 37.5 hours, working week - 10 session basis, although any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full time would be eligible to be considered for the post, and is subject to the terms and conditions of service governing the appointment of hospital medical and dental staff in Wales.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a complement of 23 Consultants responsible for the provision of obstetric and gynaecology services to Singleton Hospital, Swansea, including a team of 7 resident Consultants.

The Consultant will take part in a 1/8 resident on call rota with prospective cover for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and contribute to the daytime Emergency Gynaecology rota.

The department needs to increase capacity in maternal medicine, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, vulval conditions and minimal access surgery, though other subspecialty interests for the successful candidates would also be considered.

The accommodation at Singleton was opened in 1991 and consists of a purpose built block including Obstetric wards, Central Delivery Unit, tertiary Neonatal intensive Care Unit (covering South West Wales), SCBU/Transitional Care Unit, Colposcopy Suite and outpatient clinic space. We intend to develop a hysteroscopy/ minor ops suite within the next 12 months, with plans to co-locate it with the Early Pregnancy Unit and Gynaecology Outpatients. Our inpatient gynaecology beds are located within the main hospital block adjacent.
