Health Care Support Worker - Learning Disabilities

Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated person with experience of working with people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and a forensic history. Previous experience in a similar area of work will be beneficial, with knowledge and experience of implementing positive behaviour support (PBS) with individuals who may present with complex Behaviours that challenge.

Hafod Y Wennol is a 6 bed locked assessment and rehabilitation unit. The unit provides multi-disciplinary assessment, intervention and rehabilitation of individuals assessed as ready to step down from low secure and locked rehab environments. Individuals are supported to move to more independent living within their local area.

The team comprises ofa unit manager, two clinical leads, registered nurses and health care support workers. In addition to this the team will work alongside the newly created inpatient multi-disciplinary team including: a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, a Behaviour Specialist, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an activities co-ordinator, a communication development officer and is supported by a Clinical Lead Nurse and a Business Manager.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude to working with people with challenging behaviour and experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment.Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to work positively with service users and the ability to develop therapeutic relationships. Candidates would assist in the provision of both personal and health care, contributing to comprehensive treatment plans for each individual.Candidates must also be able to demonstrate commitment to developing their skills.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
