The department of General surgery at Morriston Hospital are looking for a Locum Appointment for Service at CT1/2 level to join their team. The post is fixed term appointment and due to commence after 10th December 2023 until 6th August 2024.

Although this post is not recognised for training, opportunity will be given to attend teaching, grand rounds and participate in audit and quality improvement projects inline with department needs.

At present there are 18 gastrointestinal surgeons serving Swansea Bay University Health Board. The majority of these surgeons have sessions in both Morriston and Singleton Hospitals. The emergency intake takes place on the Morriston site, with most major surgery also undertaken there.

The Department is led by a Clinical Director supported by two Clinical Leads, Head of Nursing and General Managers. The Department forms part of the Integrated Surgical Services Group, which includes Pancreatic, Bariatric, Oesophageal, Colorectal, Endocrine, Vascular, Urology and Head and Neck Services.

We have close links with Swansea University and other University College partners in South Wales especially in the areas of research & development and multi-professional teaching.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with your colleagues under the direction of a Consultant Surgeon, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

Applicants must:o Be eligible for full registration with and hold a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start dateo Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice.

You will be participating on a full shift rota with other trainees ( F2 and CT1/2 level) and Junior Clinical fellows participating on ward rounds, attending theatre. There will be opportunity to undertake audit and quality improvement projects in line with the needs of the department.
