Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Welsh Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Morriston Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated individual to undertake the role of Department Manager - Senior Sister/Charge Nurse covering both Burns & Plastic Surgery OPD and the Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre.

The nursing teams at B&P OPD and Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre place great emphasis on communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team to support the patient's recovery.

We are looking for an adaptable, enthusiastic, self-motivated person who will be able to deliver a nurse led service within the outpatients department, providing the best care for the patient whilst working alongside the multi-disciplinary team. Within this role the post holder will be directly accountable for the continual operational running of the Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre ensuring the management of theatre lists, resource use, staff compliance to policies and procedures, teaching and induction of staff, governance and professional practice. Theatre knowledge and scrub skills are essential for this post .

The post holder will have responsibility for the day to day management of staffing of both areas inline with the Health Board's values and behaviour framework. Excellent communication is essential, together with a pleasant, confident and empathic manner and to act as an effective role model.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an adaptable, self-motivated individual who will be able to deliver a nursing service that prioritises the complex care needs of patients and their families. The individual will also need to have a good working knowledge of the Plastic Surgery service. Significant experience within ward/department management is essential at a Band 6 level or above.

It has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton in Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.
