Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Otolaryngology Surgeon based at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. This new substantive position is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to join a well-established, progressive multi-disciplinary team. The Otolaryngology department is based at Morriston Hospital and is incorporated within the Head and Neck speciality group.

The ENT department at Morriston Hospital is a large unit and regularly achieves a high standing for Higher and Basic Surgical training. The department performs tertiary referral services for South Wales, including major Head & Neck resection with free tissue transfer, Advanced Sinonasal Surgery using Neuro Navigation techniques and support for the national Cleft centre and Tertiary referral for BAHA.

You will be encouraged and supported to develop your subspecialty and multidisciplinary interests.

There is a commitment in the post for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching providing support for Swansea Medical School and the postgraduate department within the Health Board.

You must have full GMC registration with a license to practice and must be eligible for inclusion in the GMC specialist register and hold a certificate in completion of training (CCT) or be within six months of accreditation at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a full time Consultant Surgeon in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery with sub speciality experience in Otology, based at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The requirement is to achieve a sustainable provision of services for the population of South West Wales.

The appointment will be on 10 session basis and will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of service applicable to the SBU Health Board.

The Otolaryngology department is based at Morriston Hospital and is incorporated within the Head and Neck speciality group. The implementation of the job plan will include; Outpatients, Theatre, SPA and further education opportunities. The ENT department at Morriston Hospital is a large unit, with eight Consultants, four SpRs, one Associate Specialists, two Core Surgical Trainees and five Foundation doctors. The unit regularly achieves a high standing for Higher and Basic Surgical training.
