The general Medicine department are looking to recruit a Clinical tutor. This is a full time post for up to one year commencing on 2nd August with no on call. This post is suitable for a trainee (Internal Medical Training-IMT 1 to 3) intent on pursuing a career in medicine.
The candidate needs to have successfully completed foundation rotations prior to commencement and be working towards or have been awarded their MRCP and have a demonstrable interest in medical education.
The clinical tutor should make the following contributions to undergraduate teaching for GEM students (year 3 and 4) who are on Speciality attachment on Medicine. Applicants can spend up to two sessions per week towards their specialty training.
Integrating learning opportunities into these sessions is encouraged. This post does not include an on-call commitment.
Main duties of the job
The clinical tutor should make the following contributions to undergraduate teaching:
- Leading ward based teaching for students, particularly on the medical assessment unit and medical wards (Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Diabetes and Endocrinology and Stroke).
- Encouraging the development of examination and clinical reasoning skills and prescribing in medical students through ward rounds, post take rounds, ward based teaching and tutorials.
- Providing opportunities for students to practice clinical skills with constructive and structured feedback.
- Contributing to weekly tutorials, which focus on diagnosis and management of patients clerked by the students on placement with an emphasis on prescribing.
- Running teaching clinics in specific area of medicine, which can reflect their personal interests.
- Develop learning materials for self-directed learning.
Assessment (where possible given the teaching requirements of the programme):
To assist in question writing, emendation and standard setting of undergraduatemedical exams (knowledge and clinical).
To train as an examiner for OSCE examinations
Completing supervised learning events for students (eg mini-Cex) on placement.
Completion of a Certificate or Diploma in Medical Education
