Job summary

The post holder will take a lead clinical and technical role in the implementation and ongoing support of HEPMA and support the project managers in specifying the configuration requirements. They will support a wide range of healthcare staff during a period of significant change and provide expert advice regarding pharmaceutical issues to both clinicians and managers to ensure patient safety is at the forefront of the project and take a lead role in ensuring full benefits realisation in line with the projects business case and project initiation document.

Main duties of the job

Oversee the installation of electronic prescribing and medicines administration solution at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

To clinically lead the implementation of the HEPMA across Swansea Bay University Health Board .

Lead the development, installation, configuration and testing of the HEPMA solution.

To be a proactive member of the project team working closely with the project manager and the system supplier to provide expert pharmaceutical advice ensuring successful project delivery.

Work with Health Board staff to ensure the HEPMA system is developed to optimise prudent working practices.

Take a lead role in ensuring full benefits realisation in order that patient safety and efficiency indicators are met.

Participate in an electronic prescribing on call rota.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Management

Manage the development and delivery of training relating to all aspects of HEPMA and other medicines related technical solutions.

Manage interruptions variations and problems as and when they arise.

Demonstrate a high level of competency in the use of presentation aids and communication skills in the delivery of training to small and large groups of staff from a variety of professional backgrounds.

Contribute to the critical decision making process with other senior clinicians in respect of the HEPMA system configuration.

Ensure a system for incident/issue recording is established during the implementation phase to enable the project to confidently report on change impact.

Manage the transcribing of paper drug charts on to the HEPMA system prior to go-live ensuring a safe and effective process.

Enhance patient care by determining how the HEPMA system functionality can improve services and care given; particularly around information on medications and the clinical checking of prescribed medication.

Analysing, comparing and interpreting complex information such as administration patterns of high-risk drugs to identify any issues.

Be responsible for the communication of any scheduled downtime to the end users and other system managers as necessary.

Using specialist pharmaceutical knowledge to adapt the HEPMA system to ensure its accuracy.

Lead the testing and implementation of HEPMA solution upgrades including liaising with the IT Departments and system trainers as necessary.

Develop a suite of Standard Operating Procedures in relation to the HEPMA system and medicines management.

Consider and manage implications arising from changes to the HEPMA configuration which may impact pharmacy operations given the underlying pharmacy and medicines management application underpins HEPMA.
