We are looking for a Service Group Director for
Morriston Hospital Service Group who shares our vision, ambition and values. The Service Group
Director will be accountable for the effective leadership and management of the
Service Group. This role will drive strategic change on a significant
scale whilst delivering rapid and tangible improvements in quality and
timeliness in access to care. It is a hugely exciting time as the Health Board
starts to implement its strategic Changing for the Future programme
particularly focusing on the evolution of Morriston, Singleton and Neath Port
Talbot hospitals which are to become individual Centres of Excellence with
Morriston Hospital becoming the Health Boards primary provider of emergency
care and specialist surgical services.

Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Chief
Operating Officer, the Service Group Director Morriston Hospital Service Group
will be responsible for effective leadership and management of the delivery
unit. The postholder will be required to work with a high level of autonomy and
authority to manage the complex range of services within the service group.
This autonomy is set within the context of delivering the wider Health Board
strategy and plans, and the Values and Behaviour Framework. This role will work
closely with the Groups Nurse and Medical Directors to ensure that there is a
clear and unequivocal focus on quality and safety at the core of the delivery
unit objectives. They will also act as an ambassador for the Health Board both
internally and externally.
About us
SBU (formerly ABMU) was created on April 1, 2019
after responsibility for providing healthcare services in the Bridgend County
Borough Council area passed from ABMU to the new Cwm Taf Morgannwg University
Health Board.
We serve a population of around 390,000 in the
Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas and we have a budget of around £1bn. The
health board employs approximately 12,500 staff.
It has three major hospitals providing a range of
services: Morriston and Singleton in Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in
Baglan, Port Talbot. We run a community hospital and primary care resource
centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals. As an
integrated health board, SBU has 49 GP practices in their area, 72 dental
practices including orthodontists, 31 optometry practices and 92 community
pharmacies. Mental health and learning disabilities services are provided both
in hospital and community settings.
Morriston Hospitalis a 750-bed teaching hospital and is
the site of the major Emergency Department for Swansea. In addition to general
surgical and medical services, Morriston houses the Welsh Centre for Burns and
Plastic Surgery covering south and mid Wales, and
the south west of England. It also delivers one of two cardiac surgery services
in Wales. Also forensic mental health services are provided to a wider
community which extends across the whole of South Wales.

the change the post holder will need to actively and consistently engage
patients, carers and families as well as a wide range of multi professional
staff to ensure that there is a clear and unequivocal focus on quality and
safety at the core of the delivery unit.

ambassador for the Health Board both internally and externally and may be
required to deputise for the Chief Operating Officer and to represent the
Health Board at national meetings and events.
