Highly Specialist MPK Physiotherapist
A unique opportunity has arisen as a 1-year secondment / 1 year fixed term contract to become the MPK (microprocessor controlled knee) Specialist Physiotherapist within the Swansea Artificial Limb and Appliance Service.
The MPK Physiotherapist role involves working with established amputees of knee disarticulation, transfemoral and hip disarticulation level, ranging from paediatric age to elderly. Providing specialist assessment, rehabilitation and training to transition from mobilising on a mechanical knee onto an MPK.
This is an exciting full-time post, suitable for a Physiotherapist with adequate experience of working with amputees in a rehabilitation setting. Some training can be provided.
Main duties of the job
This role involves leading the MPK service, working closely with Prosthetic colleagues to identify, prioritise, and assess potential MPK users.
This role holds the responsibility of providing all of the Physiotherapy intervention for the selected patients including full physiotherapy assessment, rehabilitation prior to MPK prescription, specialist training on the MPKs during a 4-week trial period (and afterwards to facilitate achievement of goals). Conduction of 6 month follow up reviews as well as 1 year reviews and then annually after this is requirement of the service. In addition to this, the collection, storage and analysis of outcome measure data and statistics to report back to WHSCC with regards to service performance is an integral part of the role.
The role requires leadership in the planning and implementing of weekly MPK MDT meetings and autonomously managing a complex caseload.
In addition to this, you will be liaising with colleagues in the other 2 limb centres in Wales, striving for an all Wales approach and collaborative working.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
