Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Cancer Team as lead Pharmacy Technician for haematology and oncology at Singleton hospital. Singleton Hospital is undergoing a service change to become predominantly cancer orientated, this will provide opportunities for pharmacy staff to develop professionally, whilst improving services that benefit our patients.
Singleton Hospital Pharmacy Cancer Team has extensively developed pharmacy services within haematology & oncology, including co-ordinating and facilitating delivery and administration of both oral and injectable Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACTs) to peoples homes' across South West Wales.
Please be reassured, the successful candidate will receive extensive training and support to ensure they are competent and comfortable working within these clinical specialities.
Main duties of the job
This post incudes:
- Working with a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists / pharmacy technicians / medical and nursing staff in haematology and oncology to provide high level medicines management services to these specialities;
- Acting as an initial point of contact for haematology and oncology pharmacy queries;
- Managing daily home delivery of SACTs. This includes:
- Processing medication prescriptions for home delivery;
- Liaising with homecare providers, patients, carers and relatives;
- Counselling individuals on both medicines and home delivery services.
- Providing support to the haematology team. This includes:
- Supporting clinics run by haematology pharmacists;
- Assessing symptoms & side effects of medication;
- Liaising with haematology pharmacists, consultants and clinical nurse specialists.
