Job summary

Do you want to be part of an innovative new project working within Mental Health Rehabilitation?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the development of a new service working across both Acute Adult Mental Health, and Mental Health Rehabilitation & Recovery to support patient experience, early rehabilitative interventions, and timely transition through services as part of recovery. As part of this development we are looking for a Static Band 6 Physiotherapist to join this new team.

The Adult In-Reach Rehabilitation (AIRR) service is a new project which will be comprised of an MDT of occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses and physiotherapists who will use an In-Reach model of care into Mental Health assessment and treatment wards.

This pro-active model of care will support timely assessment and interventions of rehabilitation and therapy requirements for patients at the point of admission and throughout their treatment pathway. The team will collaborate closely with ward based staff to ensure that patients receive the rehabilitation support they need in order to develop/maintain their independence and skills whilst they are in hospital. This is aimed to reduce the overall amount of time patients spend in hospital settings and reduce the likelihood of readmission.

Informal enquiries about this role welcome.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to the specialist AIRR caseload within the SBUHB.
  • To manage a defined caseload of clients with complex needs within this setting, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, maintaining associated records.
  • To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse conditions including Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety and other Mental Health conditions. Such patients will also present with highly complex physical and psychological conditions and assessment will need to provide a platform for treatment and management within the care home setting
  • To give advice that may assist MDT members and wider staff in the management of residents who sometimes may have distressed behaviour
  • To have a sound understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures.
  • To supervise Physiotherapy students on clinical placements
  • To offer educational sessions as part of the MDT both to MDT colleagues and to staff within the AIRR and ward setting

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board (formerly ABMU) was created on 1 April 2019, after responsibility for providing healthcare services in the Bridgend County Borough Council area passed from ABMU to the new Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Swansea Bay UHB covers a population of around 390,000 in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas and we have a budget of around £1bn. The Health Board employs approximately 12,500 staff. It has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton in Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

We also have a community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals. Mental health and learning disabilities services are provided both in hospital and community settings. Morriston also delivers one of two cardiac surgery services in Wales.

The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board and Swansea University. ARCH is a unique collaboration project aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of South West Wales.
