Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor based at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. There are two permanent posts, one full time and one part time available. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to join a well-established, progressive multi-disciplinary team. The Oral & Maxillofacial department is based at Morriston Hospital and sits within the Head and Neck speciality group.
The Oral and Maxillofacial department is one of the busiest in the United Kingdom serving a population of 1.25 million. A wide range of Oral and Maxillofacial services are carried out including head and neck surgery, paediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, facial deformity surgery, maxillofacial trauma, salivary gland surgery and cutaneous malignancy. The Oral and Maxillofacial department is an integrated department based at Morriston Hospital and also serves the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. All emergency work takes place at Morriston, Inpatient elective work takes place at Morriston and Singleton Hospitals, with outpatient clinics on both Morriston and Bridgend sites.
The Maxillofacial Unit, Cleft Unit and ENT share a dedicated outpatient facility with several clinical rooms, treatment rooms and multidisciplinary meeting rooms in Morriston Hospital. There is a dedicated adult and paediatric theatre for elective operating throughout the week and access to CEPOD theatre for emergency work. There is a large maxillofacial laboratory on site.
Main duties of the job
The duties will include mainly outpatient clinic sessions as well as the delivery of minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic and local anaesthetic/IV sedation. You may well be required to undertake General Anaesthetic day case surgery as the need arises. The bulk of the operative surgery will be oral surgery, particularly dento-alveolar surgery.
This is a 10 session post with no on call commitment at present. The successful applicant may be suitable to undertake second on call duties appropriate to previous experience and will certainly be encouraged to contribute to our educational programme.
