Job summary

A vacancy has arisen for a HCPC Registered Applied Psychologist, who is passionate about improving the lives of individuals with a Learning Disability, to join the Psychology Service in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB). This full time permanent post is being advertised at band 8a/7 dependent on experience, giving more newly qualified psychologists the potential for career progression in post. Preceptorship support will be in place to enable this.The health board supports a range of CPD opportunities including opportunities to those who are newly qualified to undertake sessions in areas outside their main post for the purpose of gaining experience and skill development at the outset of their qualified career.

SBUHB has a large learning disability service provision comprising seven Community Learning Disability Teams across the Swansea Bay, Cwm Taf and Cardiff and Vale Health Board geographical areas. The Service also has a range of specialist services with over 15 psychologists in post at a range of grades working across these different settings.

The Learning Disability Service has recently commenced a significant modernisation process, hence this is an exciting time to join SBUHB and be part of shaping future service development & improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post is based within the Cardiff Community Learning Disability Team which is close to the city centre of Cardiff with some home working also supported. The team value psychology input and through close working relationships with the other psychologists working in Learning Disability within the Cardiff and neighbouring CLDT'sit will be possible to gain support and supervision.

The post holder will be expected to provide a specialised practitioner psychology service to Adults with a Learning Disability, under the care of the Cardiff Community Learning Disability Team providing specialised psychological assessment and therapy to service users and support to their carers.

Psychologists in the service have close links with local clinical and counselling doctoral courses and regularly offer trainee placements. There are also opportunities to link with wider psychology colleagues across Swansea Bay Health Board who work in mental health, forensic, primary care, health psychology and neuropsychology settings among others.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
