To provide psychological support to Probation Officers within dedicated Local Delivery Units in their management of high risk offenders identified as presenting with behaviour consistent with a personality disorder diagnosis. Work alongside probation colleagues to enhance the assessment and supervision of those identified offenders through the provision of case consultations and formulations.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To provide psychological support to Probation Officers within dedicated Local Delivery Units in their management of high risk offenders identified as presenting with behaviour consistent with a personality disorder diagnosis. Work alongside probation colleagues to enhance the assessment and supervision of those identified offenders through the provision of case consultations and formulations.
The role will involve training and workforce development of Offender Managers and Offender Management Teams, through consultation, to enable an understanding of the psychological aspects of a client's risk and the development of psychologically informed formulations and risk management plans
The post holder will work with the regional 8b Psychologist and 8a Psychologists within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the LDU's policies and procedures. The utilisation of research skills for audit, policy and service evaluation within the area served by the team/service will be a necessary requirement.
The core aspects of the role centre on consultation and formulation with Offender Managers for OPDP service users. In addition to formulation the role will involve limited joint working with OPDP service users and their Offender Managers. The role will also involve some specialised work with high risk OPDP service users presenting with complex needs. Such work will involve individual intervention and delivery of group interventions within a multi-disciplinary team.

- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or masters level training in forensic psychology including specifically models of psychopathology, risk assessment, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Training / experience in supervision of other psychologists.
- Registration with the HCPC.
- Evidence of CPD as required by BPS / HCPC.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Previous experience of delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems.
Desirable
- Training in relevant intervention skills e.g. CBT for psychosis.
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in staff training and / or other fields of applied psychology.
- Previous experience of working within the criminal justice system or other secure setting.
