Job summary

This post is essentially a highly specialist clinical psychology post. The post-holder will contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all patient of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group and ensure that all members of multidisciplinary teams have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding clients of the service through the provision of advice, consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory. The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of high quality, comprehensive clinical and forensic psychological services.

Sessions will usually be undertaken on the hospital site. The post-holder will be required from time to time to perform assessments in other settings (including high secure hospitals, other medium secure units and prisons).

The Caswell Clinic is a regional medium secure unit based within Bridgend that provides specialist care and treatment to individuals admitted under the Mental Health Act 2007. Inpatients can therefore present with complex needs including mental health, personality, attachment needs as well as risk behaviours. The service aims to deliver value-based healthcare in line with Swansea Bay's over-arching healthcare values.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible, as a member of the psychology service, for the provision of a highly developed, full and comprehensive specialist clinical and forensic psychology services to culturally diverse in-patients with severe and enduring mental health disorders and histories of high risk behaviour, who are detained within the Medium Secure Unit and detained prisoners in the prison. Responsibilities will include provision of specialist psychological assessments and therapies, specialist risk assessment and advice of risk management, and offering psychological advice and consultation to others involved in patient care, depending on the knowledge and skills of the post holder and their banding.

The post-holder will work as a clinical member of a multidisciplinary team in the Medium Secure Unit. This role will include appropriate attendance at team and other client related meetings. The role of team psychologist will include responsibility for ensuring the systematic provision and governance of a high quality specialist forensic clinical psychology service to patients via the Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010) process and liaison with other professionals proving psychologically based care and input.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
