Job summary
The department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering seeks an enthusiastic engineer to join the Radiotherapy Engineering team, to assist maintaining specialist Radiotherapy Treatment machines within the South West Wales Cancer Centre (SWWCC) at Singleton Hospital. The Department is equipped with 4 Elekta Linear Accelerators, a Philips Brilliance Big Bore CT Scanner and a Mosaiq Oncology Management System. The department is currently undergoing a Linear Replacement program, with 2 Versa HD Linear Accelerators and 2 Elekta Synergy Accelerators with Agility heads. A 3rd Versa HD Linear accelerator is due to be installed early next year. A new Philips Pinnacle treatment planning system is used for the latest VMAT IMRT treatment techniques.
The Linear accelerators are fully maintained by the Radiotherapy Electronics team, with 1st line support provided for the other specialist equipment, including CT Simulator.
Most preventative maintenance is done at weekends, so there is a requirement to work Saturdays and some Sundays
Main duties of the job
The principal duties of the post include daily treatment machine warmups, assisting with the corrective and preventative maintenance, quality control checks, mechanical engineering support, managing stock and test equipment for the section and supporting users in the correct function and operation of a wide range of patient-critical equipment, found in a modern high tech healthcare environment, ensuring equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime.
Applicants ideally will have a degree or HND / HNC in electronics / electrical engineering or equivalent technical qualification and some practical experience in electrical / electronic engineering. This position would be ideal for someone who has recently graduated and wants to start a career in an exciting field of medical engineering. Those with Mechanical engineering qualifications with electronic engineering experience are also invited to apply. Equipment specific manufacturer training along with on the job training will be provided.
Appointment at a lower band may be considered for applicants with less experience or qualifications. Part time or temporary appointments may also be considered.
