Swansea Bay University Health Board is offering a rare and exciting opportunity to work with stroke patients from admission to home. The successful candidate would be joining an innovative Adult Speech and Language Therapy service embedded within inpatient and Early Supported Discharge (ESD) multi-disciplinary teams. The role requires an enthusiastic, and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist to deliver the most evidence-based communication and dysphagia rehabilitation across the stroke pathway.

This post offers opportunities to work within an experienced team of friendly and forward thinking Allied Health Professionals that can provide on-site support and supervision, including joint assessment and management of stroke patients across other specialist inpatient teams e.g. critical care, voice, head and neck. The team has excellent administrative support and well-established SLT led videofluoroscopy and FEES services that the successful candidate would have opportunities to develop their experience in.

The post holder must have a Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification, be a member of RCSLT and be registered and licensed to practice with HCPC.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would be expected to undertake the following duties, although this list is not exhaustive:

  • Manage a specialist clinical caseload using evidenced based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
  • Day to day management and prioritisation of an inpatient and ESD caseload.
  • To participate in MDT meetings, family meetings and best interest meetings.
  • To liaise with third sector stakeholders e.g. stroke association
  • To understand and participate in SSNAP data entry
  • To work closely with rehab assistants to deliver therapy programmes to patients.
  • To provide support and training to rehab assistants.
  • Referral and access to other SLT specialist services where appropriate and following therapy recommendations afterwards e.g. instrumental assessment, AAC.
  • Supporting and working with students, band 5 therapists and administration officers

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
