Job summary
The Clinical Engineering Department at the Princess of Wales Hospital currently has a vacancy for a full time Senior Clinical Technologist/Healthcare Science Practitioner - Anasethics and Ventilation lead.
The post holder will be a member of a multi-disciplined engineering team and will be expected to work without supervision, problem solving on a wide range of highly complex life support equipment which includes patient monitoring, anaesthetic machines, ventilators, medical lasers, infusion devices, baby incubators etc which at times will be patient connected.
The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support and enable qualified staff to provide patient care, which reflects the quality of standards and mission of the Health Board.
The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols. The range of responsibilities will be in support of and supervised by a Chief Clinical Technologist, and will involve rotation as appropriate to the needs of the service in consultation with the post holder and in accordance with Local Service Agreements.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are observed, and meet the Health Board requirements contained in the Health and Safety Policy, and will also be expected to assist in development of policies relevant to speciality.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be the specialist lead for both the Princess of Wales and Royal Glamorgan Hospital sites for the maintenance and repair of patient ventilators and anaesthetic machines. The post holder be required to attend each of these sites regularly depending on service and repair schedules/requirements.
There will be requirement to attend manufacturer site and other CTMUHB sites regularly during the training period. The post holder will also liaise with external contractors relating to repairs/service contracts on equipment where required.
The post holder will have a UK accredited Degree or equivalent qualification, knowledge / experience in electronics or Clinical Engineering and be able to clearly demonstrate significant post qualification technical training and experience in the support of anaesthetic and ventilator equipment as well as a broad range of other electronic medical equipment. Specific training on a range of medical equipment will be provided.
RCT registered or member of equivalent professional register or working towards registration is desirable for this role.
High personal integrity and sympathetic people skills, with the ability to fit in and perform as part of a team providing technical support to critical care and other clinical areas are essential.
