Job summary
Working as part of the Endoscopy Department team, the successful candidate will assist in the delivery of a high standard of care to patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures, acting in a professional manner at all times.
They will be able to communicate in a manner that is understood and always in a polite and respectful manner, and enable patients to meet all their personal needs in accordance with individual preferences and clinical need.
The post holder will ensure that the patients comfort and dignity is respected at all times. They will assist in the movement of patients to ensure maximum comfort and safety at all times.
They will assist in maintaining specialised endoscopic equipment in good working order, identify any faults in the equipment and report to the Registered Nurse.
The HCA will assist in ensuring that the department area is kept clean and tidy, e.g. participating in general housekeeping, adhering guidelines in the disposal of dirty linen etc in accordance with UHB Policies.
They will take care of the endoscopes, Decontamination , Endoscope drying cabinets and storage cabinets in line with current guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The HCA will assist the qualified nurse in the preparation of endoscopy theatres according to procedures on the theatre list including all specialised equipment required.
They will be required to manoeuvre patients on wheelchairs; move and transfer patients using manual handling aids as required.
They will suport patients/clients and assist them into the correct position on the endoscopy trolley, ensuring that care is taken over their pressure areas. The HCA will assist during the endoscopic procedure in relation to patient placement as requested by the endoscopy practitioner, for example, supporting the patient's abdomen during an endoscopic procedure.
They will assist the endoscopy practitioner with the support of the endoscopic equipment as requested, and assistthe endoscopist in taking pathology specimens, for example, operate biopsy forceps with a high degree of efficiency and speed.
The HCA will undertake the correct procedure for cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes as well as assisting in cleaning and sterilization of reusable endoscopic accessories under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and take care of the endoscopes, Endoscope drying cabinets and storage cabinets in line with current guidelines.
They will undertake the correct procedure when outside workers visit the unit to maintain equipment in line with estates policy.
