Designed to Smile Dental Health Support Worker

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dental Health Support Worker to join the Designed to Smile Team in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.

You will be based at Ynyshir Medical Centre. This post will be 22.5 hours per week, 8.00 - 4pm. Term Time Only. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as part of the Designed to Smile team assisting the Oral Health Improvement Practitioner in implementing and monitoring the supervised tooth brushing programme in schools and pre-schools in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB. You will be required to have the ability to prioritize your workload which will involve carrying out administrative tasks including data collection using computer software packages. The role also requires the post holders to deliver and collate parental consents, and to monitor and order oral health resources.

The post holder will be required to have a flexible approach as the role involves travelling daily between sites visiting schools and pre-schools throughout all localities in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB and communicating with parents, educational staff and other health professionals.

You will be required to travel between sites and may be required to drive CTMUHB vehicles.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a member of the Designed to Smile team, conducting delegated tasks related to Oral Health Promotion activities and adopting a community development approach.

The post holder will support and assist the Oral Health Improvement Practitioner (OHIP) and Dental Nurse in implementing and monitoring the Designed to Smile Fluoride Varnish programme (Designed to Smile programme/WHC (2017) Number 23 Refocusing of the Designed to Smile child oral health improvement programme).

The post holder will travel between sites and schools daily and communicate with parents/carers and work closely with education staff to gain consent for the Designed to Smile Fluoride Varnish programme. To collate the paperwork and information required to deliver the Fluoride Varnish programme in schools across Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.

To chaperone / take / guide /walk the pupils with consent from the classroom to the designated Fluoride Varnish Treatment area. To provide reassurance and support to the pupils after treatment and return them to their classroom.

They will assist the Oral Health Improvement Practitioners and FV Dental Nurse with all administrative tasks including data collection using computer software packages.

Provide direct advice to patients on the Designed to Smile Fluoride Varnish Programme.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
