Job summary
To support the professional practitioners to assist in the provision of high standards of holistic care for people with sexual and reproductive health needs in both acute and community environments. The Health Care Assistant (HCA) should assist with creating a welcoming, caring and safe environment. The post holder will be required to work both within the clerical and clinical environment.
To provide support and direct assistance to medical and nursing staff within all aspects of the integrated sexual, women's health and reproductive health service by undertaking nursing care and treatment as appropriate and as planned for clients, in various clinical settings including: Community/Hospital Women's health and Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit. Etc
The post holder will deal with the general public and demonstrate good customer relations on behalf of the Trust. Good communication skills are an essential element of the role.
The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care for the benefit of the client. The range of responsibilities will be in support of and supervised by a registered nurse and will involve rotation within areas, as appropriate to the needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to act in a caring and professional manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Main duties of the job
Assist Nursing Staff within the Womens health service in the preparation for and participation in various clinical settings
Act as a chaperone and assist the Doctor / Nurse during clinical examinations as appropriate and as requested, ensuring correct labelling of all samples with accurate information regarding the clients details e.g. reference number and date of birth.
Be responsible for setting up the various clinics, ensuring that all equipment, stationery and literature is available.
To maintain stock and ensure adequate supplies, ensuring stock is rotated, used and distributed within expiry dates in accordance with Trust policy.
Expand IT skills and operate the necessary IT clinic systems or equivalent data basis.
Assist patients with personal needs and ensure security, privacy and dignity is maintained during every procedure.
Assist Medical and Nursing staff as required in all clinical areas. The post holder may be involved with emotional issues during a shift i.e. may be present during the breaking of bad news, e.g. unintended pregnancy, positive test results etc.
Undertake a range of clerical duties e.g. the filing of clients results into their notes, photocopying, clerking in clinical areas; e.g. making up of client notes, entering clients onto Myrddin/CANESC systems as required during the week and directed by the departmental/team manager. This requires a moderate amount of physical and mental effort
