Nurse Education is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with a keen interest in education and professional development. As a Practice Development Nurse within an evolving Nurse Education team, you will have the opportunity to influence, help develop and support a variety of education programmes such as the New Registered Nurse Programme, Band 6 and Band 7 Professional Development & Innovation Programme and in house education days. There will also be opportunities to gain valuable experience, understanding and contribute to the education needs of our International Educated Nurses. We work collaboratively with our corporate nursing colleagues, University partners and the wider clinical education team, Your base will be confirmed on appointment, however you will be required to work across all of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
This is a fixed term post until 31 March 2025 due to funding
Main duties of the job
The post holder will promote excellence in patient care through development and co-ordination of all aspects of post registration nurse education in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.
The post holder will assist in co-ordinating education provision for all post graduate registered nursing staff; contributing to the development and achievement of the Directorate objectives. They will have a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of quality care services offered to patients through collaborative working with the Directorates and the Patient Safety Team e.g. supporting the Patient Safety Improvement Managers in the delivery of action plans following patient safety investigations, monitoring compliance and providing educational support and assessment where required.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Directorate Management Team to develop strategies to ensure recruitment and retention of a highly motivated nursing workforce e.g. assessing training requirements, and supporting and delivering directorate mandatory training programmes.
The post holder will act as a change agent within the Health Board wide Multi-disciplinary Team in taking forward, and shaping the future of nursing practice in the light of the local, national and professional agenda.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Plan and develop an education framework and practice education activities; some of which will be ongoing within the Directorate, encompassing mandatory training, and the regulatory body requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Senior Nurses. There may be a requirement to re-arrange or make adjustments to plans based on clinical need, and this programme will be aligned to Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHBs inter-professional Education Strategy, and will require the co-operation of Senior Nurses, Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses and Patient Safety Improvement Managers.
- Co-ordinate the development and local implementation of the UHBs clinical skills provision, which will involve communicating practice and educational information within the NHS and other Higher Educational Institutions as necessary.
- Work in conjunction with inter-disciplinary colleagues participating in the Clinical Audit and Skills provision.
- Maintain up to date registers of training in by joint working with colleagues in learning and development. In conjunction with the Senior Nurses and Patient Safety Improvement Managers, lead and inform development and implementation of patient care improvement plans based on National and Local information. This will involve participation in developing policies and procedures to improve clinical practice and education within the Directorate.
- Work in partnership with the Senior Nurses, Patient Safety Improvement Managers and Ward Sisters/Charge to strategically develop nursing audit tools, disseminate results and facilitate appropriate changes in nursing practice and skills development.
- Be required to hold/obtain a formal teaching qualification to enable local and clinical assessments, and development of skills training.
- Act as a source of expertise, providing advice and support in relation to preceptorship issues.
- Perform clinical duties alongside newly qualified nurses providing support and best practice advice to both educators and preceptors in the clinical environment, and proposing interventions for improvement.
- Maintain own professional competencies and clinical credibility whilst recognising and working within limits of competence as per NMC Code.
