Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB Medical Illustration department provide a high standard photography, video and graphic design service.
We are looking for a dedicated individual seeking an exciting career in Clinical Photography. Based at our main department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, you will gain exposure to all aspects of clinical photography undertaking clinical photography in many specialities across CTMUHB such as Dermatology, Maxillofacial, Ophthalmology, ENT, Tissue Viability, Theatre and many more.
The successful candidates will undertake an 18 month on the job training programme designed specifically to provide a sound knowledge and skill base to develop their career.
As a Trainee Clinical Photographer (Band 5 Annex 21) you will be working towards gaining skills and experience to be competent in meeting the duties and responsibilities detailed in this job description. This will enable you to be eligible to apply for a qualified Band 5 Clinical Photographer position.
As a trainee you will undertake the Level 7 Diploma in Clinical Photography, which will require you to commit to additional hours outside of the working day to complete the qualification.
This is an 18-month fixed term contract starting on Monday 2ndSeptember 2024 and ending on Friday 27thFebruary 2026.
Main duties of the job
To work in a team of clinical photographers to produce clinical photographs / video to aid patient care, diagnosis, teaching, research, and publications.
The post holder will provide a range of photographic knowledge and skills to support a variety of multidisciplinary teams, across a range of clinical specialties within the organisation. Working in a variety of clinical environments, the post holder will use a combination of standardised and non-standardised photographic techniques.
Salary details : Band 5 Annex 21 70% year 1 and 75% Year 2

- Possess an Honours degree or equivalent qualifications, in photography or a relevant media related subject that has a focus on photography. Alternatively, learners must have sufficient relevant professional photographic work experience.
- Evidence of background research into the medical illustration profession and NHS.
Desirable
- Experience of work in a public/service environment.
- Experience of work in a medical photography department.
- Membership with the professional body for clinical photographers, the Institute of Medical Illustrators.
- Demonstrate photography skills in a range of subject matter, e.g. still-life photography and portraiture. Demonstrate control of lighting on location and in the studio.
