Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational, dynamic and enthusiastic Band 7 to manage Bridgend Clinic, Ward 16 and the Ambulatory Emergency Surgical Unit (AESU) at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.
Bridgend Clinic and Ward 16 serve as admission areas for both Elective and Emergency Surgical inpatients, providing pre and post operative care. AESU provides support to a select group of emergency surgical admissions and has close links with the Emergency Department, Theatres and Acute Surgical Wards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of high quality care to patients within the ward/department areas, whilst ensuring effective planning and implementation of care needs with the available resources. The role requires the successful candidate to provide leadership both clinically and managerially and demonstrate an ability to work cross functionally with strong verbal and written communication skills and high ethical standards.
The post holder will have 24 hour responsibility for the ward/department areas. This will include staff management, supervision and the responsibility of maintaining professional standards that reflect the quality, values and mission of the Health Board. The post holder will also contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures within their sphere of responsibility.

Main duties of the job
The role requires an experienced and enthusiastic individual who will lead by example, maintain high professional standards; to deliver effective and efficient patient care. We are looking for a reliable, dynamic and motivated individual, with excellent communication and leadership skills. The role covers three Ward/Departments within Planned Care that are vital to day to day management and flow of surgical patients throughout the hospital.
You will be expected to perform under pressure, have excellent organisation skills as well as being able to actively promote the Health Board's values on a daily basis.You will have overall responsibility for the assessment and delivery of person centred care needs, ensuring Clinical Governance, Financial and Quality Assurance standards are met.
You will be responsible to the Senior Nurse for General Surgery and as such will also contribute to overall service delivery, working closely with the senior management team. Good organisational and time management skills are essential along with excellent inter personal skills.
The post holder will need to be a Registered Nurse educated to degree level supplemented by post graduate courses/education/equivalent experience and should have significant experience as a Ward Manager at Band 6 or 7. It is desirable for applicants to have substantial post registration experience in an acute inpatient setting, working alongside surgical patients.
