Job summary

The post holder will act as the Clinical lead for rehabilitation in CTMUHB Physiotherapy services providing expert intervention, delivering highly specialised assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in a variety of settings

They will provide a lead role for research, education, policy, strategy and service improvement in conjunction with Physiotherapy Clinical leads, Head of Physiotherapy and other Therapy Consultants.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Physiotherapy Consultant Post will be characterised by four principal role functions:-

  • Expert Practice
  • Professional Leadership and Consultancy
  • Education, Training and Development
  • Practice and Service Development, Research and Evaluation

The balance of these functions may vary from time to time.

The main roles will be:

  • To be an expert in the field of the therapeutic aspects of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and orthopaedic care for the Health Board, developing cross boundary working practices and integrating research evidence into
  • To provide innovative clinical leadership and contribute to the strategic direction and operational policies of the Health Board and the therapy professions in the management of musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
  • To lead the strategy and delivery of education, training and development of therapy staff and implement service innovation across Health Board and local networks.
  • Working with lead healthcare professionals and wider stakeholders to support the development of a rehabilitation ethos, knowledge & practices for all staff working with patients with acquired and traumatic musculoskeletal conditions.
  • To develop and lead on AHP research & audit that contributes to the knowledge base and clinical practice of therapy within musculoskeletal and orthopaedics, linking with Academic
  • To act as a clinical advisor for musculoskeletal conditions on relevant local and national committees, networks and working

  • Master's Degree or higher in specialist area or equivalent experience
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy.

  • PhD

  • Extensive post graduate experience, including as a senior clinical leader in the management of MSK rehabilitation
  • Experience of leading and delivering clinical audit, research, service development and benchmarking
  • Experience of working within the NHS
