Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 8b Clinical Psychologist to become part of the leadership team for an Intensive Therapeutic Placement support service. This innovative new service is the start of a new collaborative approach for Bridgend Council and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, which focuses on making a difference to children and young people's lives, addressing placement sufficiency, and supporting our carers by working within an established evidence-based therapeutic model adopting a collaborative, pro-active, and inclusive approach to working with children, young people and their families to enable better outcomes.
This role is fundamental to the delivery of this service it will strengthen and improve services in the short, medium and longer-term delivering the right type of bespoke support and interventions at the right time via a skilled multi agency team to work intensively with staff/carers and other agencies around them, enabling us to keep children closer to home and form local support networks in their community which will no doubt benefit them into the future
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical and strategic leadership in the development and delivery of trauma informed care to care experienced children with complex needs in Bridgend. To lead on the support the development of training, supervision and ongoing reflective practice culture within the service. To provide and advise on specialist psychological formulations and interventions for children and young people who care experienced within Bridgend and present with multiple complex mental health problems and are significantly socially disadvantaged. This includes face to face work with young people and their carers/families, consultative and supervisory work with therapeutic support team staff and other members of the social care a health team supporting the service, liaison work with young people's Social Workers, Teachers and extended professional networks. It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for a range of complex difficulties experienced by care experienced children.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months until 31st March 2025 due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

- Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS
- Post-Graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the HCPC - or equivalent if trained before 1996
- HCPC Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist - Clinical Psychologist
Desirable
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of psychological practice
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications, presentations at conferences, or similar contributions
- Additional training in attachment related interventions with children and/or young people
- Relevant additional specialist training or knowledge and experience in forensic area

- Substantial experience of working as a qualified applied psychologist in an area relevant to this post.
