Job summary

Job Summary/Job Purpose:

To co-ordinate the aseptic technical service and manage the aseptic technical staff, scheduling workload within the aseptic service.

To train and assess technicians and pharmacists in technical and theoretical aspects of aseptic services.

To plan and deliver the training of pharmacy staff undertaking relevant qualifications, including appraising and mentoring.

To check the aseptic preparation of medicines by other pharmacy staff.

To dispense and product approve aseptically prepared medication, providing advice and information to medical and nursing staff.

To ensure the Pharmaceutical Quality System is compliant and functioning correctly.

Main duties of the job

Manages the Operational aspects of the Aseptic Service. Part of the senior team within Aseptic Services, that is one of four specialist technical areas within pharmacy (logistics, aseptic services, dispensing services and medicines management).

To provide specialist advice to other pharmacy staff on technical aseptic service practices.

Guided by Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) professional code of practice and works with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To comply with medicines legislation.

Acts independently and uses initiative to deal with problems, enquiries and urgent requests, deciding when to refer to the pharmacist team leaders.

Uses professional judgement to make appropriate decisions based on evaluating facts and options e.g. skill mix issues, service provision issues etc.

Uses initiative to deal with problems, enquiries and urgent requests, deciding when to refer to the Aseptic Service Team Leaders.

Accredited to undertake the checking of aseptic preparation by other pharmacy staff, including pharmacy graduates and qualified pharmacists.

Accredited as a Product Approver to release aseptically prepared medicines.
