Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for managing requests to the Repeat Prescription Ordering Service.
This will include the responsibility for determining the repeat prescription requirement for individual patients.
The post holder will be responsible for accessing patients GP records and selecting the correct medication, dose and quantity, printing and processing prescriptions ensuring they are given to the GP for signing whilst ensuring confidentiality and data protection are maintained.
Acting as the front line contact for patients in a high demand environment, and managing requests for repeat medication which may include complex treatment regimes, the post holder will be required to use highly developed critical thinking and analytical skills to determine the appropriateness of the requests being received, before either acting on the requests and producing the prescription or referring the request on to an appropriate clinician.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Manage requests for repeat medication. This includes reviewing the patients' records when medication is out of re-authorisation to identify any overdue monitoring and recalling patients for appropriate reviews.
- Review requests for acute medication from patients using effective questioning techniques, negotiation and persuasive skills when required. This may include providing and receiving complex or sensitive information where the patient may become distressed or emotional.
- Processing requests for acute prescriptions within the scope of practice policy and referring the remaining requests to the most appropriate clinician.
- To ensure that patients are not over ordering prescription items, are only ordering items that they require at that time and reporting of any items that they are no longer taking to ensure that patient safety is paramount. Utilising excellent tact or persuasive communication skills to convey information where there are barriers to understanding. Facilitating access to service resources e.g. text phone, interpretation services.
