The children's emergency unit is a new development within the emergency department, with paediatric emergency consultant cover during weekdays. Here you will be able to influence the expansion of the unit, formulating new pathways and protocols to ensure our paediatric population receive excellent emergency care. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to gain paediatric clinical experience as well as giving you an insight to the management activity that is required to create a new service.

Main duties of the job

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR UPTO 12 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

The successful candidate will be part of a team of 13 junior doctors in a busy district general hospital Emergency Department (ED). You will work alongside nine middle grade doctors & eight consultants in a multi-disciplinary team including ENPs and ACPs providing front line care to an undifferentiated case mix. The successful applicant will participate in a full shift rota providing 24-hour shop floor cover. The department provides a consultant led service with ample opportunity for supervision. There is direct consultant shop floor cover approximately 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

About us

The ED at the Princess of Wales Hospital sees approximately 56,000 new patients per year. There is substantial exposure to the breadth of EM cases ranging from seriously ill or injured adults and children to minor injuries with ample opportunities to develop EM procedural skills. Our ED has a dedicated, dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team. This provides an excellent and supportive working environment.
