The Emergency Department at Prince Charles Hospital at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our team as research clinic fellow

Main duties of the job
Junior clinical fellow in research 20%
The Job is a 6 month post with a possibility of extension for a further 6 months. The job will involve 80% work on the shop floor and 20% being involved in numerous research projects. Prince Charles Hospital is currently running various research projects with which the research fellow can get involved with. There is also opportunity to develop your own research project. We have close links with the Cardiff University who are able to facilitate certain aspects of a research project. Currently we have ongoing research in the topics of management of Ischemic Heart Disease and various aspects of Trauma care.
Prince Charles has a very diverse group of doctors working in the Emergency Department, who are developing their special interest in Ultrasound, Trauma, Global Health, Education and sexual health. The research fellow can involve with and help support one of these projects as well as develop a research project of their own. The aim of this job is for the Research fellow to produce publications / presentations that would be submitted to various journals and conferences.
Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine 80%
The post will offer the candidates opportunities for development, through Life Support courses, Clinical Audit, Grand Round Presentations, Complaints Management, development and/or updating of Care Pathways, support and mentoring of medical students, bedside ultrasound and a bespoke junior weekly consultant lead teaching.
About us
Prince Charles Hospital
The Emergency Care Centre is staffed by 8 wte consultants. Our clinical lead Is Dr Nil Hossain. The Paediatric Emergency Medicine lead is Dr Watson. The Emergency Medicine consultants support resuscitation training within the hospital and run training for both the junior trainees in the Emergency Department and well as other specialties.
- On our junior tier: we have GPs, FP2s, FP1, ACCS and Junior clinical fellows.
- On our senior tier: we have SAS, AS, and Higher EM Trainees
- The department also benefits from Emergency Nurse Practitioners, a dedicated pharmacist and phlebotomy cover.
In the event of an emergency such as sickness and short notice vacancies the post holder may be expected to cover the duties of his/her colleagues.
Annual/study leave arrangements to be approved by the lead consultant and subsequently submitted to the Human Resources Department. Applications must be submitted 6 weeks prior to leave.

The working pattern of Emergency Medicine
The post is designed for individuals who would like to gain experience in Emergency Medicine in the UK. The post is for 6 months with possible 6 month extension and you will be expected to work a rota including nights and weekends. The responsibilities of the role include the following:
- Contribute to the Emergency service at Prince Charles Hospital
- Participate in the initial assessment, treatment, referral and disposition of patients attending the Emergency Department, with an emphasis on paediatric emergency medicine.
- Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties
- Work a shift pattern including nights and weekends.
- To participate in clinical audit and activities.
- To attend regular teaching and complete eLearning objectives
Clinical: Roles & responsibilities include co-operation in the management and treatment of all patients attending the Emergency Department, working autonomously but with supervision provided by the consultant staff.
The appointment will be in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales).
Other Conditions.
- The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC prior to taking up the post.
- Membership of a Medical Defence / Protection society is encouraged but not mandatory.
- The post is subject to a medical examination and documentation of Hepatitis B Status.
