CTMUHB would like to invite applications for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine, with an interest in Medical Education. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Educational, funded by the health board. The post will combine working in the Emergency Department (ED) at Prince Charles Hospital (PCH) on the junior rota with weekly dedicated teaching sessions for Medical Students who are on placement within the Hospital to help deliver the C21 Cardiff University Medical Course. Time in Medical Education will be protected and also allow for completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. The post will be based in Prince Charles Hospital. The post will be given 1 session per week to fulfil the teaching requirements.
Main duties of the job
The Post: Medical Education component
You will be expected to deliver teaching to students, in line with the C21 curriculum while they are on placement at PCH. The Emergency Department hosts students for Year 3 Hospital Front Door, Year 5 students on their junior and senior student assistantship and also EPIC intercalated BSc students. You will be supported by the Medical Education Department and the Resus and Clinical Skills Training Team to deliver teaching in the form of small group teaching, simulation and skills teaching. You will work alongside existing medical education clinical fellows. This post has the full support of the AMD in Medical Education, Mr Shakir Mustafa and you will work closely with the Honorary Lecturers and Senior Lecturers at PCH. You will have the opportunity to study and complete the PG certificate in medical education which the health board will fund. This could be the following:
Medical Education (PG Cert) - Study - Cardiff University or University of South wales or online.
The post: Junior clinical fellow in Emergency Medicine
The post will offer the candidates opportunities for career development, through Life Support courses, Clinical Audit, Grand Round Presentations, Complaints Management, development and/or updating of Care Pathways, support and mentoring of medical students, bedside ultrasound and a bespoke junior weekly consultant lead teaching programme.

Department Staffing
Prince Charles Hospital
The Emergency Care Centre is staffed by 8 consultants. Our clinical lead Is Dr Nil Hossain. The Paediatric Emergency Medicine lead is Dr Watson. The Emergency Medicine consultants support resuscitation training within the hospital and run training for both the junior trainees in the Emergency Department and well as other specialties.
- On our junior tier: we have GPs, FP2s, FP1, ACCS and Junior clinical fellows.
- On our senior tier: we have SAS, AS, and Higher EM Trainees
- The department also benefits from Emergency Nurse Practitioners and a dedicated pharmacist.
In the event of an emergency such as sickness and short notice vacancies the post holder may be expected to cover the duties of his/her colleagues.

Clinical: Roles & responsibilities include co-operation in the management and treatment of all patients attending the Emergency Department, working autonomously but with supervision provided by the consultant staff.
The appointment will be in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales).
Other Conditions.
- The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC prior to taking up the post.
- Membership of a Medical Defence / Protection society is encouraged but not mandatory.
- The post is subject to a medical examination and documentation of Hepatitis B Status.
Occasional Emergencies
The doctor accepts that he will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with his colleagues both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the professions and the department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional, and, in particular, that clinical staff should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
