Job summary

The postholder will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital but will be required to work flexibly across other hospital sites, including Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda and other hospitals served by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

The ophthalmology Unit has dedicated ophthalmic theatres within the Royal Glamorgan, Prince Charles and Princess of Wales Hospital with ceiling-mounted Leica microscopes.

The on-call element of the role will be on a 1:7 basis.

Excellent communication skills are required to support a multidisciplinary team approach to services.

Applicants must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) Registration.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist post is an intermediate non-training post. The successful candidate will be expected to have training and experience in Ophthalmology and at least 3 years in full time hospital service in the SHO or higher grade or equivalent.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg was formally established on 1st April 2019.

In total, CTM UHB employs over 7,600 staff across three District General Hospital sites - Prince Charles Hospital which opened in 1978, the Princess of Wales Hospital opened in 1985 and Royal Glamorgan Hospital, which opened in 1999, and six smaller community hospitals.

The Directorate of Head & Neck is within the portfolio of the Service Group General Manager for Surgery.
