Job summary

A very rare and exciting opportunity has a arisen within the Merthyr Community Mental Health Team to apply for the post of Team Leader. The current Team Leader is retiring after a successful tenure, leaving behind an incredibly friendly, hard-working and robust community mental health team. The successful candidate will provide line management and supervision to a team of staff within the context of a multi-disciplinary, fully integrated, multi-agency community mental health service and deliver evidence based mental health nursing care to clients in the community.

9-5 Monday to Friday

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

As the Team Leader, the post holder will be responsible for providing effective leadership for a team of staff providing a high quality service within the resources available within a defined area, and specifically to deliver on the following key areas:

  • Ensure that a culture of effective risk management is present in the team.
  • Actively promote the development of evidence based practice.
  • Foster robust working relationships with all partners in particular Local Authority and Primary Care.
  • To carry a clinical caseload and take a lead on management of complex cases and supporting staff in management of such cases.
  • To respond as required to serious untoward incidents, complaints and communications regarding team issues providing feedback to the team to ensure lessons learned are shared and inform practice development.
  • To manage team performance through audit, and clinical reviews, using SMART outcomes.
  • Deputises for Senior Nurse as and when required.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills, they will be confident and compassionate and will be open minded to creative service improvement, nursing development and education and quality patient experience.

The goals of the service are to provide high quality mental health treatment and care to people, within the central Merthyr and valleys area, recovering from mental illness and working closely with our local authority and third sector partners. The Merthyr CMHT is an integrated service with Merthyr Tydfil Local Authority, based at Kier Hardie Health Park. The team strives to embrace the values and beliefs of the health board in the provision of patient care and supporting staff with their own personal development.

The successful candidate will become part of a very supportive team leader network within the Adult Mental Health Service framework, with opportunities to engage ininduction, management and leadership development, and continuing education to Masters level.
