Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly funded Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Service at the Prince Charles Hospital. You will be an integral part of the new team comprising SLT, Physio, OT, Dietetics, Geriatricians, a Band 7 Team Lead, an Advance Care Practitioner as well as having administrative support. As well as being part of this new team, you will have the clinical and professional support of the wider acute SLT team based at PCH.

We need an SLT who loves 'the buzz' and fast pace of working in emergency services. You will have specialist skills in dysphagia assessment and management, communication assessment and support, advanced care planning, capacity assessment and facilitation of discharge. You will be an innovative thinker, able to lead on a new project, work autonomously and as part of a team and a skill for collecting and analysing data.

Main duties of the job

The SLT team at PCH is a friendly and supportive team with an excellent skill mix of Band 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8a staff. You will share an office with the wider SLT team and benefit from the regular support and supervision this team will, provide.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the following fields:

-Acute emergency care at the front door- swallow assessment and advice

- Liaison with the general medical, COTE, respiratory/gastro services etc.

- Close working with care agencies/community teams/care home staff and carers

- Close liaison with the acute stroke team, offering stroke screening assessments in ED

- Support to the swallow screen cascade train nursing staff in ED

- Complex discharge planning/capacity assessments/advanced care planning

- Referral and shadowing of the PCH Videofluoroscopy service

We have maintained significant improvements across all domains on SSNAP and are well-respected integral members of the friendly and supportive stroke multi-disciplinary team.

We have support of highly skilled and innovative technical instructors across all our gen med and stroke services.

You will be supported by robust line management, clinical supervision and adult team meetings. There are good resources and support for CPD and staff wellbeing. We are a compassionate and dynamic team who would welcome you into the team with open arms.
