The successful candidate will sit in the Cynon locality, working across Older Person's Mental Health, experiencing the breadth and diversity of clinical work that this specialty has to offer.
We also welcome enquires from Trainee Psychologists nearing qualification or newly qualified Practitioner Psychologists.
The CTM UHB Older Person's Psychology Team consists of a supportive and passionate team of colleagues, including experienced Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Psychological Therapists. The wider Psychology service within CTM UHB has undergone exciting developments in recent months and is a thriving department to sit within. We hold regular conferences throughout the year, where psychology teams across CTM UHB come together to share good practice and innovations within the trust and wider. We have close links with local Doctoral Clinical/Counselling Psychology programmes and provide regular training and placement opportunities to Trainees.
Main duties of the job
CTM UHB Older Person's Mental Health services are currently divided into five areas: Bridgend, Rhondda, Cynon, Taff and Merthyr - each area consists of an Older Person's Community Mental Health Team (OPCMHT) and Memory Assessment Service (MAS) and feeds into the Older Person's Mental Health inpatient wards within the health board. The successful candidate for this post will be located within the Cynon Older Person's Mental Health Team, based at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon. The post holder will sit within a well-established multi-disciplinary team consisting of Old Age Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and Support Workers, providing specialist psychological knowledge, expertise and consultation to the team.
This role provides an opportunity for an experienced 8a Psychologist to work within the Cynon OPCMHT and MAS, providing a high quality psychology service to the team and locality population. This includes providing a psychological assessment and therapy services to older adults under secondary care mental health services (Part 2 of the Mental Health Measure, 2010), as well as consultation and training as required for staff within the wider Cynon OPCMHT. The role also sits partly within Cynon MAS and the successful candidate will provide Neuropsychological Assessment and pre-/post-diagnostic intervention as appropriate for those within the MAS pathway. There is also potential for work on the Older Person's Mental Health inpatient wards as required.

- Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) including specifically, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by Health and Care Professions Council, HCPC.
- Must be registered with the HCPC.
- Recognized training in supervision of trainee psychologists
- Experience in Care and treatment planning as defined under the Mental Health Measure, Wales.
